920s: Citrus-Picking Barrio Beginnings The history of the parish began in the 1920s within the citrus-picking barrio of east Claremont. At the time, the community was largely Spanish-speaking. Because there was no formal church building, visiting priests from nearby parishes traveled to Claremont to celebrate Masses inside private family homes.
